What You’ll Learn

This 12-hour course is designed for everyday individuals who want to feel confident supporting the people around them — family, friends, colleagues, or members of their community.

You will learn how to recognise and respond to:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Psychosis
  • Substance use problems
  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • Panic attacks
  • Non-suicidal self-injury
  • Traumatic events

Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, you will learn how to:

  • Approach someone you’re concerned about.
  • Start a supportive conversation.
  • Offer initial help and information.
  • Encourage them to seek professional support.

On completion, participants become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders) — equipped with the skills and confidence to provide support when it matters most.

Duration & Format

  • The 12-hour course is offered:
    • Face-to-Face: 2x 6-hour sessions over 2 days

    Courses for individuals are mainly scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays, making it easier for people to attend outside of work and study commitments.

Accreditation

Participants receive an official certificate of accreditation issued by Mental Health First Aid Australia, valid for 3 years.
